Informal Economy

Pakistan is a developing country. Due to unstable political and economic conditions in Pakistan the informal economy has grown many folds during the last decade. The global task at hand currently is  to reduce poverty through achieving fair, global and sustainable development. Without taking the needs of the informal sector in consideration this aim cannot be achieved. Therefore  WELDO has been working on providing vocational and technical training to several individuals across Pakistan and is also assisting them in placing them in jobs.

Home Based Women Workers

Home based women workers amount to large numbers in the developed cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi. WELDO is currently working with homebased workers in the area of Rawalpindi by providing them vocational training as tailors, handicraft developers and beauticians.

 Vocational Training For School Dropouts

Under this innovative project WELDO worked with around 15 school drop out youths from the area Gharibabad and Dhoke Chaudhrian in Rawalpindi and provided them hands on vocational training through a mentor. Four out of the 15 of these youths are currently running their own businesses.

Tobacco Control Research

GENDER BASED ANALYSIS OF SELECTED TOBACCO CONTROL POLICY INITIATIVES IN PAKISTAN

Gender Based Analysis of Selected Tobacco Run Programs in Pakistan is an International Development Research Center's (IDRC) funded research project. This project is aimed at controlling the high rate increase in the number of female smokers in Pakistan. The project intends to achieve this through carrying out gender based analysis of tobacco control programs, identifying gaps in them and compiling a framework for effective tobacco control programs that cater to the needs of both genders. In this regard we require your input. So whether you are a research institute, a university, an organization or a hospital working on tobacco control programs come ahead with your support and send your publications to us.
